This weekend I have discovered Downton Abbey is on Netflix instant watch. Whoo! A blogger a while back mentioned it (please forgive me, I have been wracking my brain all weekend trying to remember who. If it was you, please let me know so I can credit you.) and I have been wanting to see if since. So glad I have, too! It's addicting!
**Nancy Williams says it was Clarissa Draper and she was RIGHT!
I can't get enough of the old houses and gowns and scenery! It's breathtaking. The scandals and plots. The rules of society and the changing women's rights. Ahhh...
It's just a bunch of goodness.
And makes me miss PBS.
That has been my weekend obsession as well as reading and critiquing. Not cleaning so much...Feel pretty guilty about it but whatever. I'll live.
We moved our crit. group meeting to a night that I don't feel like I'm going to fall asleep at the skype on. Worked out pretty well, me thinks! Those gals never fail to crack me up. Also realized that, somehow, breaking a novel into pieces and discussing it for 2 hours isn't interesting to everyone! I know, right? "The Hell!" you say! I know, I know. It's a weird thing to think about but nope. It's totally true. I guess only writers appreciate a 15 minute discussion about rocks vs gems.
So that was my weekend, how about yours?
LOL, I understand that completely!
ReplyDeleteI can hang out with Misty (fellow writer) and we'll talk about nothing else but the stories we're writing and the ones we're reading. We'll go at it all day with no problem.
Then sometimes, I'm with my other friends and I start talking about my story or something I'm reading and I keep my eyes open for that glaze that tells me I'm losing them & it's time to let it go. Usually happens somewhere around the 5-10 minute mark.
That's cool that you guys use skype for critique meetings--that never crossed my mind, but now I'll look into it with my girls!
ReplyDeleteI am totally going to check out Downtown Abbey.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a critique group, but Hubby and I can go on and on about ideas, our wips, and anything to do with writing. We get some interesting looks when we're in public conversing about, you know, the best way to kill someone and other salient topics. :)
Downton Abbey is a great series. I watched it a few weeks ago in our public broadcasting. Recommended >:)
ReplyDeleteCold As Heaven
LOL. So true. I have some friends and family who never seem to tire of my writing escapades, and others who glaze over the moment I mention it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on downtown abbey! I've been waiting for that to be instant. Happy :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, nobody understands how I could LIKE comments lining the right side of something I've written.
I love it, because I know it'll make that page BETTER. And yes, two hours dissecting something someone's written? Sounds awesome.
A gaming group I use to be in, we spent 45 minutes trying to get into a room (had an invisible floor) and then having a player argue that there has to be something in this room with no floor for him.
ReplyDeleteFun story, no one else would find it funny or interesting. Falling asleep at the computer is something that use to happen to me a lot. You're not alone. :)
Clarissa Draper posted about it. I haven't seen it yet. I guess I'd better find it and watch. I have no idea what Skype is. I see in on my smart phone.

Hahaha, even though my sister got a little bored I didn't! I love it! Besides the fact that it's fun to talk about our books, I feel all important and stuff ;p
ReplyDeleteI want to see that downtown abbey! I'll have to see if I can get it now. I love that type of stuff. There is also a Sherlock Holmes show that's supposed to be really good. Can't remember if it's PBS or BBC america.
A movie *rec*, yes!! I’m putting this in my movie queue right after The Kings Speech.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to Skype for your critique group! And hadn't heard about Downtown Abbey. Looks fun. :)
ReplyDeleteSkype for crit meetings? Brilliant! I did lots of cleaning and not much writing. Time to get back to work.

ReplyDeleteNever thought to Skype! Or about Downtown Abbey-thx!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get away with not cleaning. The Hubster just "reminded" me last night that "with hardwood floors, you really have to vacuum everyday." Well, find me a vacuum cleaner that just turns on and does it then! I tried to use the cats as the reason that I only do it every few days. I mean, it's not fair to traumatize them, right? ;-) Glad you're not falling asleep at our meetings anymore. Cause you snore like a freakin' BEAR. ;-P
ReplyDeleteWriters need to beware, because if they give me five minutes to talk about writing, I'll magically turn it into half an hour. Or more. Much more.
ReplyDeleteYes, cleaning often gets thrown by the wayside on weekends in favor of Netflix... :) And yes, my conversations with non-writer friends usually have a subject change about 2 minutes in when their eyes begin to glaze over... did have a fun GNO this weekend though. Saw "Just go with It" - pretty funny flick!
ReplyDeleteOh I hate cleaning!!! Downtown Abbey all weekend! Jealous! I saw that on CLarissa Drapper's blog as well and I bookmarked a site that would let me watch them. I really want to start but with school.... Ugh. Only two months. And then I'll watch it! I love period stuff!!
ReplyDeleteYou totally had to resurrect the rock&gem debate, didn't you! haha. I love it. These things count, right! At least, I like to think so. I love my girls and we are BRILLIANT for thinking of SKype.. I think our discussions are so much better and stronger for it and we're really getting more out of our time.
I think it's the same with any passion someone has. Even filmmaking, which seems like the universal dream, would bore most people if they were sitting in a roomful of people talking about the technical aspects of it in detail. That's why it's more important than anything to build a strong network of writers you can hang out with to discuss these things.
ReplyDeleteOh then I am sooo a real writer. I can bore the crap out of non writers in less than five minutes. Whats even better is when you start talking about faeries and little thinglings you though up over dinner. Its a riot the way people act around you when they're not sure if you're crazy or not. I like it that the jury is still out. Keeps me entertained. :)
ReplyDeleteIf only we didn't have to clean. We'd have so much more time for fun things. :D
ReplyDeleteI want to watch Downtown Abbey as well! I'm so happy that I have netflix now.
Oooh Downtown Abbey looks like it's right up my alley. Wow, that was almost a tongue twister LOL. Thanks for the heads up and have a great day:)
ReplyDeleteDownton Abbey is fantastic! My wife and I loved it. I just read that there will be a season two next winter.
ReplyDeleteYou'll love it.
Nice blog you have!
*giggles* Yeah, a great many people totally don't get it. We are a weird bunch.
ReplyDeleteI will have to see if my library has Downtown Abbey... I am a committed Anglophile and scandal sounds good!
I'm going to have to check out that series - sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteI should have watched Downtown Abbey while it was on, but hubby's not much of a PBS fan. So what did you decided in your discussion about rocks vs gems?
ReplyDeleteI'll be checking out Downtoen Abbey. Never feel guilty about not cleaning:).
ReplyDeleteOh, sounds like something I'd love! I don't watch much TV, but you said this is also on PBS? Oh gosh, I can't remember the last time I sat down to watch that channel--I think probably several years ago when my oldest used to watch Arthur.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I can't wait to check this out! I just got done with my Lark Rise to Candleford obsession. It's time for another one.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I finally read Sabriel. Great book! Thanks for the suggestion :)
Downtown Abbey, huh? It looks interesting. I don't know if I could convince the hubs to watch it with me though. My weekend was pretty mellow. Lots of writing. Oh and watched Megamind! =D
ReplyDeleteOh my word I know!
ReplyDeleteSome people just have no appreciation for the craft.
;-P
Sounds like a fun weekend -- especially if there was no cleaning involved ;)
ReplyDeleteTo heck with cleaning. I always avoid it, and I don't usually feel guilty either. There's just so much other stuff that's more important to me. Like blogging :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, Downtown Abbey sounds good! I've actually never heard of it, but I love old houses and gowns. My weekend was pretty standard, editing, writing, cleaning, going crazy... the usual ;)
ReplyDeleteabsolutely stunning buildings!
ReplyDeletemy weekend? i spent it tending to a sick family. thank goodness we're all better now!
Downton Abbey looks amazing! I'm surprised I had never heard of it till now. Yay for instant Netflix!
ReplyDeleteI easily bore my non-writer friends which is why I have to have my writer ones. We can talk for HOURS about books and writing and brainstorming. Literally, I think we've done it from 7-1am, crazy. Non-writers will only tolerate half an hour at most ;)
This weekend I had fun at the park and just took a break from things before doing a "spring" cleaning.
Amie, I'm so sorry your family was sick!! Glad all better now!
ReplyDeleteErica, I hope you get a chance to try a few episodes out! It is so good!
Hahaha! Every writer needs writer friends so our other family and friends don't murder us!
Sounds like a great weekend too!!! Thanks for stopping by!
