Bunch of Stuff and Stuff

Back to work after a LONG snow break. Was touch and go there for a little while when the snacks ran out and the wii remote almost died. But I survived without eating a cat. Hurray!

Today is for just a few odds and ends:

Tracy at Forever Endeavor has started an online book club! The first one this month is My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent. If you have read it already, you have a free month. If you haven't get it read by February 25th and join her discussion! Head on over for more details and just to check her out!

J.C. Martin, amazingly lovely writer/blogger, awarded me this award!!

The (optional) rules for accepting this award:
  1. Thank the person who awarded you and link back to them. CHECK
  2. Share 7 things about yourself. CHECK
  3. Award 5 recently discovered great bloggers, and notify them of the nomination! CHECKISH
1. I sleep with my eyes open sometimes... Often...
2. I don't like South Park. It isn't that I don't think it's funny, because it is. I just don't care for it.
3. I would prefer to wear flip-flops year round. Or go barefooted. Damn snow...
4. I have never seen Hellraiser, though I want to. But I'm kind of bitter about it. One of my HS boyfriends used to call me Pinhead because of all my piercings. Even though at the time I had none in my face. So, I have never "gotten around" to watching it.
5. There is a constant scissor war in my house. We have at least 7 pair, but it doesn't matter.
6. I have to make the bed every night before I can get in it. It's a thing.
7. I like birds in general, watching them outdoors, feeding them seed outdoors, but I don't like owning birds.

I'd like to pass it on to these ladies who's blogs I have recently fallen in love with:
Ellie Garrat
Ann @ Inkpots n' Quills
Jemi Fraser
Kristina Fugate
Kimberly Franklin

I am going through all my posts and deleting pictures that aren't mine or crediting them. It is taking a little while but I will feel better when it's done!

I was getting a lot of traffic on one particular picture that would have been cool EXCEPT it had nothing to do with writing and I was getting page views but I HIGHLY doubt any followers came from it. Because it had nothing to do with writing. Or YA. Or anything really...it was just a silly picture that people can't help but clicking on when they see it in Google images.

ANYWAY, all that to say, I'm being safe rather than sorry and deleting most pictures that aren't mine or crediting them. AND just FYI, apparently, even if the signature is in the picture of whoever it belongs to, that is not sufficient credit. I have not had any run-ins on this but people have and I'd rather not.

HERE are 2 video tributes to the greatest fictional bands ever. THEY ARE!! (although, I thought Spinal Tap was real?) They have the weird alien guys from Star Wars that just play that one song, The Soggy Bottom Boys, Plavalaguna(Fifth Element FTW) and so many others!

~
And lastly, I have a question, how many of you all that don't get replies to your comments emailed to you come back and check to see if a blogger replied? I'm HORRIBLE at doing that! I think I have sent thousands of emails to that damn no-reply address.

So, if you all do check back in and I never answered you, I'M SORRY! But you probably have an e-mail in that no-reply box somewhere...SO, do you all check back here and I should feel like an ass? And more importantly, why don't you want replies emailed to you? Cause...it makes life easier...for me, I mean. ;)

Happy Monday!

  2. I get your emails! And I love them!

I wish movie posters said the truth...that would be the funniest thing ever. It'd make my life so much better - because I'd never stop laughing.

Congrats on the award!! Ahh...the battle with scissors.... I have the same thing!

Glad you got through the snow break without eating one of your cats. That would be awful!

  3. Ah, yeah. The No-Reply email address. I've sent many a nice email there, too. All I can hope is that someone reads that email on the Blogger staff and feels very loved...

Oh, and I pretty much never check back for a response, even to people who I know respond. I just forget.

  4. I'm a total slacker when it comes to replying on comments. I'm trying so hard to break that habit. It's one thing to write a post. The introvert in me curls up in a ball of nerves when it comes to actually interacting.

Oh, and I cry when I read my own writing. Some serious issues there.

Spinal Tap isn't real? (winks) Thought so at first myself. (Hugs)Indigo

  5. OMGosh, that award just made me so hungry. I can't possibly eat anymore after all I ate during the Super Bowl, last night. LOL

  6. Ha ha ha! Love those posters! I only check back on comments if I've asked a direct question, otherwise I don't have time.
I could live in flip flops too... basically I do since I live in FLA. And Hubby has to make the bed too before he sleeps in it. It's so funny to me.We argue because he tucks my end of the covers in at the bottom and I hate it!!! :)

  7. I hate wearing shoes as well, mostly because loathe folding socks.

  8. Love those posters! Congrats on your award! And I can't believe you sleep with your eyes open ... creepy.

  9. I actually like how you e-mail comment responses. You were one of the first who did this for me and I think it's probably the more efficient way to communicate. I'll check back for comments if it was part of an on-going discussion or if I asked a question I'm hoping to have answered. If it's a REALLY interesting post, I'll even subscribe to the comments by e-mail.

  10. Congrats on your award! And I can't get into unmade beds either!

    ReplyDelete
  11. hee hee hee! yeah, i'm always sending replies to that noreply box! oops!
and we never have enough scissors either. i wonder where they all went...
and! it is important to give credit to artists whose images you use! (or whereever you found a pic!) i think it's wonderful that you're making a stand about it! :)

  12. Congratulations on the award! I'm sorry to hear about the wii remote. :P

I can't stand unmade beds either. I can't be bothered to make it in the mornings. :)

  13. Barefoot is best!
Sometimes I check back (if I write myself a note for some reason).
Comments on my posts come to my inbox. I answer there and copy to my comments section. (Anal, I know)

  14. # 1 WHAT??!?!?!? #6 and #7--YESSSSSSSS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Great post to start off my Monday! Why is it that no matter how many pairs of scissors a person owns, you can NEVER find any? :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Scissors must grow legs, because they constantly disappear at my house, too!

Good luck with all the photo crediting. I only do so-so with that myself, but you're right that not crediting could lead to troubles.

  17. Honestly? I follow too many blogs to come back and check if my comment has been answered. On my own blog, I only answer people if their email is linked to their profile. Sometimes I'll address their comments in the actual blog post, but again, that can be time-consuming and certain cuts have to be made unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Congrats on you award.... You are S-WEET!

I try to email comments back. You are so nice to do so. I know appreciate them because i know how time consuming it is.

    Have a great week.

    Michael

  19. I actually do not get replies emailed to be. This is just a throw away email for me though. So maybe I should. Oh well.

Didn't know that about the pictures, I'll have to look more into it. Thanks for the advice. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Aw, thank you!! You are so sweet! :) And that movie picture thing is so funny. LOL. I needed a laugh today! :)

Hope you have a great week!!

  21. Congratulations on the award. And I like those posters!

  22. Congrats on the award and really cool blog here! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Don't your eyes dry out?

Thanks for mentioning the things about the photos. Google images are fun but tricky. At least they have now added a "This image may be subject to copyright." It should really say, "This image is probably subject to copyright.”

I don’t have my email linked up – mostly ‘cause I hate email. Why? I don’t know, but I do have a contact link in my profile. If I ask a question I do try to come back to see if there is a response.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Congratulations on the award! :)

If I remember, and/or I've written a long comment on someone's post, I'll check back to read it; but not always. In fact, I probably do that for less than 2% of the blogs I read per day.

    ReplyDelete
  25. you are irresistibly sweet!!! And I think I'm going to do the same thing--delete an old picture that keeps attracting hits. Also, I keep getting hits from my Stargirl review. I think high schoolers are being assigned it... :D

LOVE those movie posters... 85 minutes til he cuts his arm off... *snort* :D

    ReplyDelete
  26. Congrats on the award and not eating the cat! =D Those academy award pictures made me totally crack up. Especially the one about his arm being cut off. Good times. Good times.

  27. Fun Monday post!

How do you sleep with your eyes open?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah...who the heck is "no-reply"? LOL! I was doing the same thing for a while. There isn't a good method to this responding thing, is there?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Congrats on your award - you are so very sweet!

I think I should do that with my pictures, too... some of my Harry Potter posts have a huge amount of traffic because I have fan art up on them. I really don't want to take it down... maybe I can just track down the original creators. New project...

The No-Replys drive me crazy! I've probably sent out a million of them. I never remember to check back on blogs either... I have enough trouble getting to new posts without worrying about checking back with old ones!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Funny movie posters!
Yeah, I wish the no-replyers would just let me email my reply. I think we'd both be happier.

    ReplyDelete
  31. First off, your layout has changed since I was last here and I love it!

Also, I've never seen anyone sleeping with their eyes open. I'm kind of intrigued, though I have a feeling it would freak me out.

I feel the same way you do about flip-flops, and most of the time I wear them simply because going barefoot is socially unacceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  32. We don't always get back to our comments, either - especially for our international followers who post while we're asleep. But we try to send out emails - if not every time, pretty close, so yeah, the actual email address is very helpful!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Congrats on not eating a cat! And those movie posters made me crack up, especially the 85 minutes until he cuts his arm off!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Look me, I'm a horrible friend I didn't read and comment on your blog earlier :( Anyway, I never check back to see if the blogger comments in the comment section. I have stopped commenting on my own blog to those who have the email thing turned off. IT's just too time consuming to do both. So I just reply by email if they have it set up.

LOVE the posters. Too funny. And yeah, I can never find the scissors. Little Monster always steals them.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I thought Spinal Tap was real, too. Weird.

Anyways, I don't know how many times I've been half way through a lengthy reponse to a comment on email when I look up and realize it's the Blogger no-comment email. Life is easier for everyone I think if you have email set up. And I don't think people go back most of the time to see if you responded.

  36. I am exactly the same way about making the bed before getting in it at night. My husband hates it.

To answer your question, if it is an interesting post and I have want to hear the replies, I'll check back. Sometimes I'll subscribe by email.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm looking forward to reading My Soul To Keep (which is my way of saying I don't get a free month this month). ;)

Love the award, except now I have a craving for strawberry shortcake. :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. Those new movie titles are hee-larious. OMG, so funny.
    Congrats on your award, btw!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wait - were you asleep tonight? Your eyes were open! Now we won't know. ;-) I love those movie posters. Those are hilarious. And The Hubster suddenly wants to see Black Swan. Hmmmm. Just kidding. Congrats on your award!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Aww, big hugs for pimping the book club, chicky!!

And nooooow, I'm all paranoid, because I hardly ever credit the pictures on my blog. It's not like I steal them and credit them as my own. I just never thought about it. Geesh, that could be a huge issue. I don't want to go to blogger jail or anything!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Congrats on the award! And I prefer flip-flops too. I can't wait until the snow is gone and the temps go back up.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like the e-mail thing and yeah, I've sent a ton to "no-reply", too. I don't usually go back and check unless I have an extra reason.

And flip-flops are the bomb. :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's always nice to get you reply e-mails, Colene ... and don't go bare-foot in the snow. You might ctch a cold, and that's no fun

    Cold As Heaven

    ReplyDelete
  44. You sleep with your eyes open?? Cool meets disturbing. And my husband thought sitting up in the middle of the night was creepy!

I so miss visiting here!! I wish I had time to stop by more! Boo!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hehe.. I've sent quite a few emails to that no reply address too ;)

And apparently my eyes don't fully close when I'm sleeping either!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love your emails! I'm terrible about responding these days. Life is a bit overwhelming. I agree about the no-reply thing, open up people and start accepting emails!

Love your list of things about you. You and my husband are the same about flip-flops. We don't have snow but he wishes he could wear them to work.

I sleep with my eyes open too. I used to be able to get through some of my high school classes sleeping with my eyes open. I just propped my head up on my hand and stared at the chalkboard. Wasn't awkward unless the teacher called on me. Haha!

    Happy Writing, Girl!

    ReplyDelete
  47. flip flops are my preferred shoe of choice :D In fact, I've been wearing them around lately and getting odd looks from family members. So what, my toes wish to be free!!

Love the movie posters! Too funny!!!

Oh I've responded many times to no-reply. In fact, I didn't even check the address until I accidentally saw it said "no-reply" a few months ago. Now I have to wonder how many people think I was just ignoring them. Le Sigh...

    Jen

  48. That's good you're crediting your photos! It's a tedious process editing all the old posts, isn't it? Oh well. It's better to get it done now. I had the same thing with random traffic coming from photos that had nothing to do with writing. So I knew the people who were directed to my blog bc of that weren't interested in my blog at all. Those type of pics had to go!

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Love, love, love those movie posters! I second you in the damning of the snow.

  50. The posters are great. I really only check in once a week or so unless I have a reply comment in my email. I try my best to keep up.
