Fear Itself

Anyone watched that? Fear Itself? It's pretty good! Pretty weird! Just started on it last night, just curious.

Anyway!!

This week marks the beginning of the hunt for that dream agent. I'm grateful I never tried with my first novel and decided to give another one a try before approaching anyone. I've learned a lot since starting out. That's the beauty of this whole gig. Ever day you write you learn more.

But this is very new. It's terrifying. It's exciting. And every time I think about submitting my little novel to a professional I want to vomit and jump for joy at the same time. (what a mess that would be...)

I run and check my query every half hour. I double check...triple check my agent list. I scour their website/blog and am on the verge of stalking the ones on twitter(Gimme a little credit, I have some restraint...right now...)

And all the while think "Oh God, what am I doing!?" while another thought, an excited thought that sparks unwanted hope pops in-"I can do this."

But mostly I know: whatever will be, will be!

General Updates:
  • Almost broke my right elbow Saturday mowing the grass. Weird? I'm accident prone that way. The weird way.

  • Buffy marathon this weekend rocked. Only halfway through season 2, which is awesome. I savor Buffy. Is that weird? It's all for Spike, though. Mmmmmm Spike...

  • A friend lent me 16 Stephanie Plum novels. They. Are. Bitching! My mom has been hassling me since they came out to read them, but I have always blown her off. She totally got a ridiculous "I told you so" moment on Sunday. There. Happy Mothers Day, you were right! ;)
What's new with you guys?

Happy Monday!

  1. Good luck with your querying. I'm getting ready to jump back into the query pool myself, after reworking the beginning of my urban fantasy. We'll see if this new start grabs some interest. =o)

  2. That's so weird - I just read the entire Stephanie Plum series this weekend! And the best of luck with your querying. (I admire the face that you managed to wait until you finished another novel. That IS restraint.) I'll cross my fingers for you.

  3. Stefhanie Plum ROCKS! I totally wish my MC was as ridiculously funny as her!

I actually lent some of mine out and never got them back, so I bought #1 again to remember how Janet started out the series.

Best of luck on the Query front!

  6. Good luck in Queryland! I queried way too early so you were right to wait! Are you using QueryTracker? That really helped me keep organized (well, helped me organize my rejections that is!).

Hope you get your first request for pages very soon and land your dream agent even sooner!!!

  12. I've never actually heard of Stephanie Plum. What kind of stuff does she write?

And best of luck with your query! The story sounds really intriguing. :D

  13. Odd coincidence ... my post today is on how to write queries. I've had many requests for fulls and partials -- but no agents were wowed by my novels.

Guess I can write a winning query but not a winning novel. LOL. Sorry about that elbow. Stay safe.

And success in your quest for an agent. Roland

  20. Hi Colene! Thank you so much for your kind comment on my interview. And I agree -- someone MUST chase the pigeons. They're far too brave in New York.

Good luck with your query! It's an exciting and scary time. I hope you get where you're going SOON.

  25. Almost breaking an elbow mowing grass, that's impressive. Grass is dangerous >:D

Here the grass has hardly gotten green yet. Mowing is still a couple of weeks into the future.

  28. Savoring Buffy is definitely NOT weird!! One of my all-time favorite shows - so clever, and I LOVE Spike!! :)

Hope your elbow is all good, btw!

Best of luck with your agent hunt. Seriously, I keep hearing that the best thing to do is get yourself and your writing "out there". Plus, I really think you've got a query/story that makes people sit up and take notice. I was going to ask - is Suzie Townsend on your list? GOOD LUCK!!!

  30. Good luck with the querying! I've got my fingers crossed for you (which is making it difficult to type).

  31. Hi Colene. Good luck with the agent. I am so glad I don't have to do that anymore. But I did do that. I finally know why I was rejected all the time. My voice is YA but my characters are not. Go figure.
