Hot As . . . Well, You Know

It is a very warm winter around these parts. And I am not complaining a bit! I'm originally from SOUTH Alabama. We don't see snow there like I've seen since moving here. And this winter feels very S. Alabama. Makes me feel at home, and I love that. Groundhog (like that fuzzy bastard has connections or something) says 6 more weeks of winter? Sure! I'll take it at 60-70 degrees!

I think everyone is experiencing a weird season this year, right?

Just finished Wicked Lovely. Took me only 2 nights. I could NOT put that bitch down! I'll admit this. . . I . . . have never been a big fan of faery novels. *cringe* I'm sorry! It's just never been my favorite kind of YA. (everyone has one kind of book they aren't very thrilled about, right?) But I decided to give this one a chance (I know, I'm way behind on this series!) and am so glad I did! Totally changed my mind about this particular faery series. I doubt I'll end up the biggest cheerleader for fey novels, but I totally intend to read the rest of this series. And am pretty stoked about it. The ending? I expected a little more ass-kickery, but I won't complain. It was still dang good. And Melissa Marr is a lovely writer. I enjoyed her world very very much. Seth? Total drool factory. Loved him.

You guys read anything good lately?

My writing goals have shifted. I hoped to be querying by March, but I have a little bit more editing to do than I anticipated (wishful thinking? delusion? whatever.) So April is my new Query month, but only because this one is going to be perfect before I jump the gun.

How about you guys? Anything good going on in your writing worlds?

Short and sweet today. Busy busy! Happy Monday lovelies!

  1. Yes, the weather is STRANGE, but this morning was cold. Winter's back..for the moment.

I'm currently reading two great books - The Atlas of Love by Laurie Frankel and An Imperfect Wife by Grace Wren. Very different, but so good. Laurie Frankel is an incredible author - she's literally laugh out loud funny, yet literary. I LOVE this book. And Grace Wren could have been writing about me and my first marriage. Wow. The MC IS me.

In my writing world, I should receive the final edits of Coming Home. This weekend, I plan to release it!

  2. Yeah, I'm probably going to have to push back my expected query month, too. I got some notes from a reader that might have me writing a new beginning. Bleh. But as much as I want to, I can't hurry the process.

I've read a lot of good things this year, but most of them have been continuations of series I was already hooked on. I haven't gotten to Wicked Lovely (and its series) yet, but my daughter loved it, so it's on the list.

  3. I'm loving the weather this year. Much better than last year. We've only had a few days of -35 F with wind chill.

I'm not a big Fae fan either, but I did love Wicked Lovely. In my opinion, it was the best book of the series (the others were good too).

I'm querying and working on the first draft of my new WIP. But I'm so involved with my WIP, I keep forgetting to send out my queries. My query buddy has to remind me to do it.

  4. It's always a warm winter in Texas, but this one's particularly nice! I'm not a big faery book fan either, so I'll have to give Wicked Lovely a shot. Thanks for the recommendation! Good luck with editing!

  5. I still hope we see a real winter here eventually.

  6. I'm in a funk. I'm supposed to be revising, even have some good notes from my CPs, but I can't find the time or the inspiration to buckle down. I'm hoping that will change in the next few days.

  7. hahaha. You crack me up, every single blog post. I haven't started this series. I'm not a huge faery fan either, though I've tried Wondrous, Strange and one of Maggie Stiefvater's Lament. I didn't get into either one of them. I do plan on reading the Iron Fey series though! I've heard great things!

I just read the first two books in the Perfect Chemistry series by Simone Elkeles and OMG. SO ADDICTIVE.

I hope to be ready to query by June! I wanted to do it sooner, but I want my baby to be perfecto first too! I'm with you! This is our year! We can do it!

  8. I'm with you. Totally diggin the mild Midwest winter compared to SOUTH Alabama. Girl, it's hotter than this down there now.

And Wicked Lovely, eh? Interesting... I'll check it out. I loved that Daughter of Smoke & Bone--like obsessively--and I've never been an angel reader. Maybe I am...? crazy. <3

  9. Hmm, if I'd KNOWN you were kinda anti-faeries I'd have thought twice about getting you involved in my FAERIE-story blog tour ;-) Lol, just kidding. I am super honoured you're taking part :-)

I haven't yet read the Wicked Lovely series (that should probably be some kind of crime, shouldn't it? Considering I'm writing about faeries!), but if it can semi-convert you then it must be good!

This afternoon I finished The Iron King, the first in The Iron Fey series. I wasn't blown away for the first half, but once the fictional eye candy entered the scene I found myself enjoying it way more ;-)

  10. Winter has been mostly not existent here too. A few powdery things fell yesterday, but they were so sparse I hesitate to call them snowflakes.

  11. It's been warmer than usual here in Tennessee, too--I love it. :D

Good luck with your editing and querying!

  12. Our weather has suddenly become wintry and then wet and is now getting colder again. Yep definitely weird weather. Your Wicked Lovely read sounds interesting. I've just finished The help which I loved, though the ending had less punch than I weas expecting. Can't wait to see the film adaptation now.

  13. Winter has been awesome in Canada as well. More days in the pluses than minuses is always a good sign. I'm a little worried for spring. I hope we haven't used all of our good weather up.

I'm with you on the fey thing (hasn't been my cup of tea). I just read Tangled Tides, which I loved and I'm half way through Daughter of Smoke and Bone, which is awesome.

  14. WICKED LOVELY is a great series, isn't it? And yes, our winter has been totally wacked out. Probably going to mean snow in June for us. O_o Good luck with your revisions and soon to be querying!

  15. I've heard of this book, and I believe it's only my (huge) to-read list. One more reason to find the time to do it. =D

  16. Last winter, here in south central Texas we were in an unusual deep freeze. This winter it's been so warm the plants and trees think it's spring!

I'm reading A Million Suns by Beth Revis right now, a enjoying it very much.

  17. Sounds cool. I actually kinda like Libba Bray's Great and Terrible Beauty series...it's different.

  18. I haven't read that series- I like fairy stories. I just finished Wither for my book club. It was okay- a little too slow-paced and character-driven for me. Bout ready to start on A Million Suns and Clockwork Angel (my next book club book for March).

  19. I'm very grateful for the mild winter this year (knock on wood it stays that way). Just moved back to Toronto and I know I would have suffered if it had been super cold - I don't even own a proper winter coat anymore! And I'm hoping I get through the season without one this year. I hate shopping for un-fun things like winter coats.

  20. I liked Wicked Lovely too. Yes, definitely get that MS looking great before querying. Go girl!

  21. NH is experiencing an unusual winter, too. Not much snow-but I'm not complaining!

  22. I think you may be in the only place in the world that is warm right now!

  23. I won a copy of wicked lovely last year and while I liked it alright, I didn't really 'get into it'. I had a hard time caring about the characters for some reason. Don't know why. But I know that Melissa Marr is a favorite amongst many of my writerly friends. Glad you enjoyed it and found a new author to explore!

  24. I've heard of that one, but I've never been a fairy fan either, which is weird since I love fairy tales.

And best of luck with your revisions. I just finished and am enjoying it this very moment.

  25. I've been enjoying RAYLAN by Elmore Leonard (based on the TV show JUSTIFIED) and Stephen King's latest : 11/22/63.

I am giving away FREE my eNovelette, BLOOD WILL TELL, for five days. A story where the blood in our bodies gain intelligence and war for independence ... and where the lone survivor refuses to give up on life, on his ideals, and on love.

    http://www.amazon.com/BLOOD-WILL-TELL-ebook/dp/B0050219BW

It is short. And if I get 10 reviews in the five days (it is a short thing), then I will draw from the names of the reviewers for an autographed photo of Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman)! How cool is that? Roland

  26. Yes, delightfully warm in Florida, too! Way more than usual, even for us. I haven't read Melissa Marr, but she is def on my list. I've been swooning over Neil Gaiman lately.

  27. We're finally experiencing some cold weather in England. Being way to mild until now (not that I'm complaining, either).

Just finishing Stephen King's latest offering, 11.22.63. In my opinion one of his best ever.
